Probably the only thing I miss more than a shopping trip to IKEA is the bonus of delighting in some meatballs, hot out of the kirchen... and obviously picking up several boxes to bring home.
While IKEA is still open for online shopping and delivery, it's really just not the same without the obligatory stop in the cafeteria.
I was so pleased to learn IKEA released the classic recipe to the public on Monday and honestly, I'm pretty excited to make them some point with all this extra time on my hands.
Included below are step-by-step instructions on how to make the perfect meatballs and cream sauce; as the original recipe was released in that typical IKEA diagram style we all love to hate / hate to love.
Smaklig måltid!
_______________
IKEA Swedish Meatballs Ingredients
500 grams ground beef
250 grams ground pork
1 onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced or crushed
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
5 tbsp whole milk
Salt and pepper
Meatballs Directions
Combine beef and pork in a bowl and smush it up with your fingers to get rid of all the lumps.
Add the chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg and mix together.
Add the milk and season generously with salt and pepper.
Roll the mixture into small, IKEA sized, meatballs. Place them on a clean plate, cover and refrigerate for two hours.
Heat oil in a frying pan on medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until brown on all sides.
Heat oven 350 F. Add the browned meatballs to an ovenproof dish, cover and cook in the oven for 30 minutes.
IKEA Cream Sauce Ingredients
Dash of olive oil
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
2/3 cups vegetable stock
2/3 cups beef stock
2/3 cups thick double cream
2 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
Sauce Directions
Melt butter in a pan.
Whisk in flour and stir for two minutes, until smooth.
Add vegetable and beef stock, stirring continuously.
Add double cream, soy sauce and Dijon mustard.
Simmer until the sauce thickens.
Drizzle over meatballs and enjoy.
