Man arrested for kidnapping and sexual assault near Woodbine Beach, may be more victims police say

A man allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted two people after inviting them onto his 22-foot, yellow and white Rinkler powerboat near Woodbine Beach on July 11.


Toronto police are concerned there may be more victims after investigating an incident that took place near Woodbine Beach on Saturday, July 11.


Police released a statement today at 11:50 a.m. advising the public of an ongoing investigation of two people being sexually assaulted on a boat in the area.


According to investigators, a man operating a powerboat invited two people to come aboard around 10:30 p.m.


Once the two people were on board, he steered away from the shoreline before allegedly sexually assaulting them.


Shanthakumar Kandiah, 54, was arrested and charged with two counts of each kidnapping, sexual assault, forcible confinement, and additionally charged with the operation of a conveyance with ability impaired and operation of a conveyance with more than 80mgs of alcohol in the blood.


The boat is described as a 22-foot, yellow and white Rinker powerboat.


Toronto Police are concerned that there may be more victims.


Kandiah appeared in court on July 13, 2020.
